The Ship Security Officer (SSO) is the person onboard a ship, accountable to the master, designated by the company as responsible for the security of the ship, for implementing the Ship Security Plan, and for liaising with the Company Security Officer and port facility security officers.

IMO001 — Company / Ship Security Officer (CSO-SSO)
The Company Security Officer (CSO) is the person designated by the company to ensure that a ship security assessment is carried out, that a ship security plan is developed, submitted for approval, and thereafter implemented and maintained, and for liaison with port facility security officers and ship security officers.
This combined program prepares professionals to fulfil the dual responsibilities of both Company Security Officer and Ship Security Officer to the highest international standard — in accordance with ISPS Code requirements, IMO Model Course 3.20 (2011 edition), and IMO MSC/Circ. 1154.

The Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) is the person designated as responsible for the development, implementation, revision, and maintenance of the Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP), and for liaison with ship security officers, company security officers, and relevant authorities.
This program is based on the enhanced IMO Model Course 3.21 and provides the specialised knowledge required by port facility security personnel to perform their duties in full compliance with the ISPS Code — covering the duties and responsibilities defined in sections A/2.1.8 and A/17.1.
