Marine Casualty & Incident Investigation

Formal marine safety investigations operate within an international framework intended to identify safety lessons and help prevent future casualties and incidents.

IMO adopted the Casualty Investigation Code through resolution MSC.255(84). Related amendments to SOLAS chapter XI-1 made Parts I and II of the Code mandatory, while Part III contains recommended practices and explanatory material.
