Every SIRE 2.0 inspection is built around a CVIQ — the Compiled Vessel Inspection Questionnaire. Rather than using one fixed list of questions for every tanker, OCIMF's system draws a bespoke set for each inspection from a much larger question library, tailored to that specific vessel, its history, and its type.
Where the questions come from
A CVIQ is built from four kinds of questions:
- Core — safety-critical items included in every inspection.
- Rotational — cycled in gradually so full library coverage builds up over successive inspections.
- Campaign — time-limited focus areas OCIMF elevates when an incident type is trending.
- Conditional — triggered by vessel-specific factors declared ahead of the inspection.
Why it matters for crews
Because the CVIQ is generated freshly each time, a crew cannot prepare by memorising a previous inspection's answers. Genuine, demonstrable competence — not rehearsed responses — is what a CVIQ is designed to surface.
