Designated Person Ashore (DPA)

DPA is a key person, who is required to ensure effective implementation of the company’s safety management system and requires to be based ashore for developing and implementing safety culture within the company.The role and responsibility of the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) is to verify and monitor all safety and pollution prevention activities in the operation of each ship.

This course addresses the role and functions of Designated Person Ashore (DPA), which include: Implementation of the safety and environmental protection policy in off¬ice and on board ships.

To carry out internal audit both ashore and on board all ships. Visits/ inspections on board to monitor activities relating to eff¬ective implementation of SMS.Reporting and analysis of non-conformities, accidents and hazardous occurrences; and Ensuring that adequate resources and shore-based support is provided.
